When you’re in the heat of a stressful moment, your adrenaline is pumping, and your mind is racing. Instead of making rash decisions or continuing to build the tension, regain focus by doing this six second breathing technique.
- Close your eyes.
- Take six seconds to inhale one breath.
- Hold that breath for six seconds.
- Take six seconds to exhale that breath.
- Repeat until you feel calmer.
- Open your eyes, and move forward with the situation.
Do It Now
Many lives feel stress when they are rushed to complete a task or arrive at the punctual time. Give yourself a break from stress by halting procrastination and giving yourself enough time to get ready and arrive at a place on time. It’s not worth it to watch one more episode on Netflix if you’ll be up extra late to finish a project.

In our busy, busy world, most of the day is scheduled with things to do. Instead of taking the approach of “fitting in relaxation,” make time for it. Make yourself a priority. I like to schedule this as the first thirty minutes after arriving home from work. I toss my phone aside, kick back on the couch, and grab my book to read. It’s very relaxing!
